Florida Virtual School (FLVS)

Online Requirement

Per Florida statue 1003.428, all students entering grade 9 in the 2011-2012 school year or thereafter must complete an online course prior to graduation. If a student chooses to take an online course that is 2 segments (English I, Algebra I, etc.) that student must complete both segments to meet the online learning requirement. If the course is a .5 credit course (Law Studies, Outdoor Education, etc.), the student will meet the requirement by completing this course. Also, for students entering grade 9 in the 2013-2014 school year and beyond, Drivers Ed will no longer count as an online course to meet this requirement. Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 may still fulfill their online learning requirement by taking Driver's Ed.

A variety of courses are available online for our students through Florida Virtual School (FLVS). The FLVS online courses can supplement the course offerings at PHS and allow our students to earn extra credits over the summer or in the evening during the school year. If you would like more information, visit The Florida Virtual School website or send email to [email protected].

Taking an Online Class at PHS

Students who wish to take a virtual class during the school day should register for a class through the district franchise of FLVS called My District Virtual School.  To register for a My District Virtual School class, you begin the same way you would for an FLVS class.  When you get to the point of selecting a start date, please choose the My District Virtual School calendar instead of the FLVS calendar.  For more information about My District Virtual School or to take a virtual class at PHS, please see your school counselor.
